Music and Mom- Interviewing my Mom about the music of her life

  [Sarah] Hi, mom. Thanks so much for being here. [Mom] I'm happy to. It's my pleasure. [Sarah] I'm just going to ask you some questions about music. It's not terribly formal. So, the first question is What is your earliest musical memory or experience with music? [Mom] My earliest musical memory is when I was about three or four years old. My dad always liked music. He liked jazz. And you know, we would have music playing- but speakers at that time were huge- So a speaker could be like the size of say, like our coffee table at home. I mean, they were just like a big piece of furniture. And I was about 3 and I was sitting right next to the speaker on the floor. And I was singing this song, and the song is about is called Winchester Cathedral. And it goes something like ‘Winchester Cathedral. You're bringing me down…’ something something, something. ‘My baby left town.’ It's like this kind of funny, jazzy song. And I was just singing it because apparently...

Blog post 2: Music and Rituals- My experience with the music of the Triduum

     My dad is the pastor of a small LCMS (Lutheran Church Missouri-Synod) congregation, so I've grown up with and been a part of the music of the Lutheran church my whole life. The music in my church typically consists of the organ and the congregation singing, though every once and a while there will be other instruments (usually me on the cello) or a soloist singing a verse or two of a hymn (also usually me). The hymns my congregation sings come from our hymnal (the Lutheran Service Book),  and are chosen for each service based on what point we are in the church year, the readings, etc.   Holy Week is the most important time in the Christian church year. My church has 5 services during Holy Week: Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday. Blog Post 1: Music and Meeeeee

      Hello all!      My name is Sarah, and I'm a Sophomore Music Therapy Student here at Converse. I took the fall semester off, which is why you probably haven't seen me in a while (or at all), but I'm so happy to be back! I've played the cello for almost 10 years now, and I've been singing practically my whole life, so music is (obviously) a big part of my life.      I  have a lot of hobbies, but my main ones generally have something to do with the fiber arts- I love sewing, crocheting, and especially knitting. I also have a passion for learning about historical fashion, and hope to one day sew a whole slew of historical dresses and gowns.
